Green Mountain Coffee Roasters And International Paper Unveil Environmentally Friendly Hot Beverage Cup
Green Mountain Coffee Roasters and International Paper launched an all-natural paper hot beverage cup that will be available in consumer outlets nationwide. In a conventional cup, the inner surface is lined with a petroleum-based plastic to prevent leaking. The new cup unveiled is lined with a bio-plastic made from a renewable resource -- corn. After use, and under the proper conditions, it will break down into water, carbon dioxide and organic matter.

"For 25 years, we've said that we craft our coffee with care. Now our cups are crafted just as carefully," said T.J. Whalen, vice president of marketing for Green Mountain Coffee Roasters, in a prepared statement. "These cups, made from fully renewable resources, are part of our corporate commitment to environmental stewardship."
"Consumers will notice no difference as they enjoy coffee with this cup -- but the environment will," said Austin Lance, vice president and general manager for foodservice business at International Paper. "It's the first in what will be a series of ecotainerT products that reflect our company's concern for the environmental footprint we leave behind." The two companies have been working on the revolutionary cup for more than a year, including a blind market trial of nearly 5 million cups. Not only does the cup feature an eco-friendly liner, but the material used to create the lining is manufactured in a greenhouse-gas-neutral environment.

Green Mountain Coffee Roasters: Coffee Shop Scandal by Brad Litwin 6/22/06
There is a breaking news story of a Washington man who would sit outside a coffee shop because of the internet connection. Since he never purchased any coffee and he didn’t stop even when the police asked him to, he was arrested. Possible charges for this man including bypassing a utility meter, stealing cable, and leaving a restaurant without paying. Employees of this coffee shop claim that this fellow was just a freeloader. I have a different opinion. I think that the shop served crummy coffee. If they had been serving brews from Green Mountain Coffee Roasters' collection, this scandal would never have occurred. - View all Products
Green Mountain Coffee Roasters: Coffee Protects Against Cirrhosis by Brad Litwin 6/12/06
New research in the Archives of Internal Medicine shows that drinking coffee could protect the body from liver damage associated with alcohol. The study took place over a span of 22 years and included 125,000 participants. The main discovery was that heavy alcohol drinkers that drink coffee generally do not have high levels of tissue destroying enzymes in the liver, which signifies liver damage. One cup of coffee can decrease the chances of suffering from liver cirrhosis by 20%. Each cup after the first cup increases the protection of the liver. Coffee drinkers who consume two or three cups a day are 40% less likely to be inflicted with cirrhosis; People that drink four or more cups are 80% less likely to suffer from cirrhosis. The study did not show the same correlation between coffee consumption and non-alcoholic cirrhosis. So stock up on Green Mountain gourmet coffee and protect yourself from liver cirrhosis! - View all Products
Green Mountain Coffee Roasters: To Purchase Keurig Inc. by Brad Litwin
Green Mountain Coffee Roasters has agreed to purchase the remaining shares of privately held Keurig Inc., the producer of the top single cup coffee brewers on the market. Green Mountain Coffee already owns about 35% of Keurig. This is a huge deal because Keurig is one of the biggest players in the single cup brewer market. The deal is set to take place in mid-June. Green Mountain Coffee's production represents more than 60% of Keurig's total K Cup sales. Green Mountain Coffee credits much of its sales growth to the sale of K Cup coffees. In the first quarter of 2006, they had a 33% in K Cup shipments, compared to the same period in 2005. K Cups also represented about a third of the increase in overall net sales. - What is a K Cup?
